We're totally LOVING this kettle. And not just because of the 5 temperature settings (4 types of tea + coffee) and built-in digital thermometer, but, having researched electric kettles for days and been scared away from most by warnings about them falling apart and 'stinking of burning plastic', this one seems solidly made and is 100% stainless steel on the inside. True, the lid, handle and base are made of black plastic, presumably to reduce weight and help prevent people from burning themselves on hot metal parts (another complaint we read about other kettles), but none of this plastic ever come in direct contact with the heated water. And I only say "...seems solidly made..." because we've only had it for a couple of days, and obviously only time will tell whether it holds up to constant usage.

Which brings me to my only slight concern : the more functions that an item has the more things are liable to fail over time. So, with 4 buttons, a nice big digital read-out, 2 lights ('power' + 'warming'), and a spring-loaded pop-up lid, this kettle is obviously more vulnerable than one that just boils water. But if that's all we wanted we'd have just gone on using our good-old-fashioned stove top kettle! So, to get all these great features we're perfectly happy to trust this well respected Belgium manufacture (while still keeping our fingers crossed, of course!), and treating this kettle gently, as one would any other piece of electronics with moving parts; I'd encourage you to do the same. And, like the majority of my fellow reviewers here, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
