While the latest color trends in small kitchen appliances are bright and happy - red, yellow, pick, orange, green, and blue - really, when it comes to tricking out your kitchen, anything goes. All white appliances can offset one colorful piece - like a red toaster, perhaps - or small appliances can complement kitchen wall colors by using the same red toaster against sunny yellow walls.
What the Colors Say
Right now, color experts point to yellow as a top small appliance color. Why? They say it's retro, funky, eclectic, and a throwback to times that seemed carefree (or a grandma's kitchen). Also adding retro flair is red - and more burnished, rust and orangey browns are showing themselves. But for comfort and serenity - and peaking still as the most popular kitchen color - blue is king. Other colors are crossing gender barriers - pink, for example, is fine for masculine use, and brown is becoming a popular ladies' choice for tabletops and other areas of the home.
How to Put Them Together
Combining colors to maximize their effect is not as delicate an art as it seems. Really, it's just based on what is pleasing to the eye. Clean, contemporary homes might benefit from all white small appliances (which will look fresh against stainless steel), while cozier kitchens can get an earthy feel from browns, white, or neutrals against bright, light greens and yellows. Or, if you can't decide, opt for an eclectic mix of colors - keep to two or three shades in lights, neutrals, or brights.
