Popular Small Kitchen Appliance Brands

Navigating small appliance brands can be tricky. With so many from which to choose, which one is right for you? Here are a few of the market's most respected small appliances and a few of their top sellers.

  • Black & Decker Small Appliances: Founded in 1910, Black & Decker originally was best known for power tools until the introduction of the Dustbuster in 1979. The handheld cordless vacuum became ubiquitous in American homes and still takes care of small, dry spills and general upkeep of your kitchen for about $35.
  • Cuisinart Small Appliances: Originally a French company - and maker of a number of small household appliances - Cuisinart is best known for its food processor endorsed by legendary chef Julia Child. In fact, the name "Cuisinart" became so synonymous with food processors, the two terms are interchangeable. Cuisinart food processors now start at about $30.
  • KitchenAid Small Appliances: By now, with the popularity of cooking shows and breakout success of Food Network stars, almost everyone knows KitchenAid makes a mean mixer. Founded in 1919, KitchenAid began with the simple idea to create a countertop alternative for restaurateurs' industrial-sized mixers. The company's uniquely shaped model is still America's favored mixer; each one is hand-assembled and they come in a bevy of colors from about $200 to $500.
  • Mr. Coffee Small Appliances: In 1972, Mr. Coffee introduced the first drip coffeemaker on the market and, as nearly every coffeemaker today is a drip coffee maker, changed the face of coffee in the home kitchen. Now, Mr. Coffee offers iced tea and espresso makers as well, but its classic coffee makers still rule; 12-cup models go for as low as $25.
